Composite filling procedure at My Scottsdale Dentist

Natural-Looking Cavity Repair

When treating a cavity, our dentists remove the decayed portion of your tooth and fill it with a composite resin material that matches the color of your natural teeth. Unlike traditional silver amalgam fillings, composite fillings are virtually invisible.

Composite fillings are versatile. Beyond repairing decay, they can also be used to fix chipped teeth, close small gaps between teeth, and reshape worn or damaged teeth.

The Composite Filling Process

  1. Numbing: We apply local anesthesia so you are completely comfortable throughout the procedure
  2. Decay removal: The decayed or damaged portion of the tooth is carefully removed
  3. Bonding: The tooth surface is treated with a bonding agent that helps the composite adhere
  4. Layering: Composite resin is applied in thin layers, each hardened with a special curing light
  5. Shaping and polishing: The filling is shaped to match your natural bite and polished for a smooth finish

Advantages Over Amalgam

Composite fillings require less removal of healthy tooth structure compared to amalgam fillings. They also bond directly to the tooth, which adds structural support. And because they are tooth-colored, no one will know you have a filling at all.
